Herons are present all over the west, only partially migratory, moving to areas where the water is not frozen and the climates are warmer. Their feathers can be ruffled up, long and blowing in the wind, truly a beautiful bird. Thank you to Vern Clooten who shared this photo to me to paint a couple years ago. He was an amazing photographer.
