Sandhill Cranes migrate great distances to warmer climes in the winter, returning in the spring. Some places like Nebraska on the Platte River are renowned for spotting great crowds of them on layovers. I saw migrators coming into Wyoming one April, and they make quite a site in the sky, pointing their toes like ballerinas.
