Along the Boise river is a heron rookery and in the spring multiple nests in several side-by-side trees are full of herons. They also wade in the ponds along the river where you can quietly watch them. I want to thank Vern Clooten who shared this photo to me to paint a couple years ago. He was an amazing photographer.
