Melinda Lowe wrote a fabulous song inspired by my painting "Winter Storm Migration". Here are the lyrics and a link to hear the song:
The Journey - By Melinda Lowe
She steps into her mother’s foot prints
makes her way down the corridor
Just the way her mother did and every
generation that came before
How do they know just where to go
Is there a compass in their marrow
Do they hear the forest sigh
Track stars in the sky
How do they know
Trot trot, clippity clop, trot trot
But every year the landscape shifts
As man and his machines take and never give
More fences and pavement to navigate
’Til nothing they can anticipate
Their will is strong but odds are stacked
We have to take a stand
before this generation is the last
October sky a familiar hue
wind wrestles leaves to the ground
warm breath rises from river’s lungs
Pushes fog, pushes fog along the slough
And the snowline gobbles
more green every day
And the hollow in their bellies
Moves them on their way
Trot trot, clippity clop, trot trot
But every year the landscape shifts
As man and his machines take and never give
More fences and pavement to navigate
’Til nothing they can anticipate
Their will is strong but odds are stacked
We have to take a stand
before this generation’s the last
So it goes the journey unfolds
Elders pass down the secrets as they go
But this rite of passage is not a guarantee
Their fate is in our hands will we take a stand
For these more than human beings
Tell me we do the right thing
Now come on
Trot trot, clippity clop, trot trot
Trot trot, clippity clop, trot trot
